We strive to support the well-being of your whole child. We understand that mental health and physical health are intertwined and that a healthy child is one with a healthy mind. We have providers who are well versed in diagnosis, medication management, and counseling services to help you and your child navigate behavioral and mental health challenges in the primary care setting. 

Our Mental Health department is changing and expanding to accommodate the increasing needs of our patients, with the goal to help as many of our patients and families as possible.
All services are billed to health insurance.

Administered by our Mental Health providers in Suite #203, counseling services include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Parent Coaching, Exposure Therapy (ERP), Art Therapy (CBT Based), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Hypnotherapy for children ages 8yrs and older.

The COPE Program

The COPE Program is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program focused on reducing negative thoughts, increasing healthy behaviors and thought patterns, and improving communications and problem-solving skills. The set curriculum is evidence based and designed for children ages 7 - 14 years old who are dealing with anxiety. A trained provider in our clinic will walk through the curriculum with you and your child in 7 sessions towards learning problem solving skills to reduce anxiety. Medication Management

Numerous research studies have demonstrated that pharmacologic treatments for ADHD, depression and anxiety in concert with psychotherapy provides the best outcomes. While medications are not always first line in children, we will help you navigate this terrain and determine when a medication could prove beneficial for your child.

Learning Difficulties

A learning disorder is an information-processing problem that prevents a person from learning a skill and using it effectively. As a result, the disorder appears as a gap between expected skills, based on age and intelligence, and academic performance. Depression

Depression is a mental illness marked by persistent feelings of sadness, irritability, loss of interest in activities, feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, and sometimes, thoughts of suicide. It affects the way one feels, thinks, and acts. Often, people who are depressed also experience changes in their sleeping and eating habits and have trouble concentrating. A diagnosis of depression is made when symptoms persist for two weeks or longer and interfere with a person's ability to function.

Disordered Eating

There is a commonly held misconception that eating disorders are a lifestyle choice. Eating disorders are actually serious and often fatal illnesses that are associated with severe disturbances in people’s eating behaviors and related thoughts and emotions. Preoccupation with food, body weight, and shape may also signal an eating disorder. Common eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder.

MEDICATIONS MANAGED

Stimulant ADHD Medications

Stimulants including methylphenidate and mixed amphetamine salts are first line medications for treatment of ADHD and ADD. They are available in both short and long acting formulations.

Non-stimulant medications including Amoxetine (Strattera), Guanfacine (Intuniv) and Clonidine are sometimes used as adjunct medications for ADHD.

When warranted, research demonstrates the efficacy of SSRI and SNRI medication for the treatment of depression in children and adolescents, particularly when used in combination with therapy. These medications include: Prozac, Effexor, amongst others.

SCHEDULING & POLICIES

If you are a patient at Advanced Pediatrics and interested in scheduling your child for any of our mental health services, please contact your Primary Care Provider to be referred, or send a message on the patient portal. Please note that our mental health services are exclusive to primary care patients of Advanced Pediatrics. If you are looking to switch your child’s pediatric care to Advanced Pediatrics in order to gain access to our mental health services, you will be required to transfer full medical records and complete a well-child check-up with our Primary Care Providers before being considered for mental health services. All patients enrolled in AP Mental Health services MUST stay up-to-date on their routine medical care (annual check-ups, asthma tune ups, etc). If you are not compliant with your routine medical care, mental health services will be paused and/or terminated.

If you are interested in scheduling an appointment for Mental Health services, either contact your Primary Care Provider for referral, or send a message on the Patient Portal with “ATTN Kayla”. We will get a brief description of your child’s needs and direct you to fill out the appropriate intake questionnaire bundles below. Once you complete and return the requested intake forms, we will contact you for scheduling. Please note all mental health appointments are scheduled by our Mental Health Manager. Please allow at least 48 business hours for her to return your call. Therapy services will be scheduled based on your treatment plan as discussed with your Intake Assessment provider.

Waitlist: There is currently a waitlist for therapy services. Please complete this form and send it on the patient portal to be placed on the waitlist.
Cancellation Policy: Appointments that are canceled or missed with less than 24 business hours advance notice will be subject to a $100 fee.
